Steven Higgins CFP®
With more than 20 years of experience in financial planning, investments, tax planning, and risk management, Steven delivers a comprehensive approach to helping clients identify and implement strategies tailored to their goals. He believes communication is the cornerstone of every successful planning relationship and continually seeks innovative ways to enhance the client–advisor experience. His commitment to progress is reflected in the recognition Higgins & Schmidt Wealth Strategies has earned for its forward-thinking approach to client relationships.
Steven co-founded Higgins & Schmidt Wealth Strategies with Allison Schmidt in 2010. Before launching the firm, he served as a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments and began his career in financial planning with Country Insurance in 2002.
Today, Steven is pioneering the application of financial gerontology through The Aspire Project—a framework that reimagines retirement by focusing on three pillars of aspirational longevity: health, purpose, and affluence. Through the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California, the leading academic center for aging and longevity, he explores how extended lifespan and healthspan create new financial challenges and opportunities for individuals and families.
Deeply rooted in his hometown of Broomfield, Colorado, Steven takes pride in both his community and his family. A devoted husband and father of three daughters, he has served as Board Chair of the 17th Judicial District VALE Board (Victim Advocacy & Law Enforcement) and as president of the Broomfield Rotary Club.
Beyond his work, Steven is passionate about athletics and mentorship. He has coached high school athletes, supported local initiatives, and can often be found cheering for his daughters as collegiate track and field competitors. Outside the office and away from the track, he enjoys the gym, running, cycling, snowboarding, playing guitar, reading, and relaxing with a glass of bourbon—always with his two golden retrievers close by.
